Malaysia Central Bank Could Stand Pat on Policy Rate Throughout 2025 -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-20

0151 GMT - Bank Negara Malaysia may hold its benchmark overnight policy rate at 3.00% throughout 2025, driven by steady economic prospects and manageable inflation, TA Securities analysts write in a report. The central bank is expected to keep a cautious approach on policy and carefully assess global economic conditions before making any adjustments, they say. There are risks that rate cuts could drive an increase in household debt and over-leveraging, especially if economic conditions worsen, they add. Amid the current economic landscape, keeping the rate steady is the "most prudent approach to balance growth and long-term stability," TA says. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
