Singapore Shares Edge Lower, Weighed by REITs -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-19

0946 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index closed 0.4% lower at 3762.88, weighed by REITs. Weakness in the markets was likely due to the Fed's surprisingly more hawkish outlook for next year, rather than its 25bp rate cut that investors had already expected, Dhawal Ghanshyam Dhanani of Samco Mutual Fund says in a note. Mapletree Industrial Trust fell 1.8%, Mapletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust lost 1.65% and CapitaLand Ascendas REIT was 1.2% lower. Among advancers, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding rose 2.85%, ST Engineering gained 0.4% and UOB was 0.25% higher. (kimberley.kao@wsj.com)
