Hong Kong Shares End Lower; Biotech and Tech Stocks Weigh -- Market Talk

0828 GMT - Hong Kong shares closed lower, with biotech and tech stocks leading the declines. Market sentiment remained subdued after the latest central government meeting failed to impress investors. Wuxi Biologics dropped 2.55% and Sinopharm Group fell 2.9%. Xiaomi shed 1.3% and Alibaba Group declined 1.1% after the company said it would record a loss of $1.28 billion on the sale of a department store chain. Among the few gainers, Haidilao International was the best performer, gaining 3.1%. Cnooc rose 1.7%. The benchmark Hang Seng Index closed 0.5% lower at 19700.48 and Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 0.6%.
