Canadian Pacific Kansas City completed construction of a railway bridge that will more than double the rail operator's capacity to move freight through the U.S.-Mexico border.
The $100 million rail bridge, which connects Laredo, Texas, to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, was built to accommodate growing trade between the two countries, the Canadian company said Tuesday.
"This is an important milestone that keeps Laredo-Nuevo Laredo at the center of North American trade, allowing the secure and efficient movement of more imports and exports across the U.S.-Mexico border," Chief Executive Keith Creel said.
He added the bridge will accelerate growth between Mexico's industrial heartland and points across the U.S. and Canada.
Construction wrapped as Creel, alongside his executive team, has spent recent weeks attempting to reassure shareholders that the incoming Trump administration, which has threatened to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, won't disrupt Canadian Pacific's business. The company's network links Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
The rail operator broke ground on the bridge, set to be called the Patrick J. Ottensmeyer International Railway Bridge, in 2022.
