BHP Group (ASX:BHP) received notice of a representative class action in the Federal Court of Australia, alleging sexual harassment and sex discrimination, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.
The claim, filed on behalf of women who worked at BHP's Australian workplaces between Nov. 12, 2003, and Mar. 11, 2024, affected by the alleged conduct, the filing said.
The proceeding is still in its preliminary stages, with the amount of damages yet to be determined, the filing added.
BHP said in the filing that its "absolute priority is the safety and wellbeing of its people" and that it does not tolerate "any form of harassment."
On Dec. 11, multiple media outlets reported that the mining firm, together with Rio Tinto Group (ASX:RIO) were facing separate class action suits filed in the federal court by law firm JGA Saddler. The suit alleged systemic sexual harassment at mine sites owned by both companies.
