The number of companies in Hong Kong with overseas or mainland Chinese parent firms rose to 9,960 while the number of startups increased to 4,694, according to a Tuesday press release by the Hong Kong government.
The figures, both record highs, show Hong Kong's attractiveness to businesses despite geopolitical and global economic uncertainties, according to a statement by Hong Kong Commerce and Economic Development Secretary Algernon Yau.
Hong Kong's number of startups also reflect the support the city has been giving to local companies, Yau said.
