Meta Platforms' (META) instant messaging platform WhatsApp and Alphabet's (GOOG) Google Play are set to become accessible again in Iran as the country's authorities have begun easing internet restrictions, media outlets reported Tuesday.
Members of Iran's Supreme Council of Cyberspace voted unanimously to remove the ban on WhatsApp and Google Play, according to the reports, citing the official IRNA news agency.
Iran's Minister of Information and Communications Technology Sattar Hashemi was quoted as saying by IRNA that "the first step in removing internet limitations... has been taken," according to a Reuters report.
Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
