HSBC Repurchases 9.1 Million Shares in UK, Hong Kong

HSBC (HKG:0005) bought back 9,089,206 shares in the UK and Hong Kong on Friday, according to a Monday filing with the Hong Kong exchange.

The British lender repurchased 7,262,806 shares in the UK at a weighted average price of 7.56 pounds sterling apiece and 1,826,400 shares in Hong Kong at a weighted average price of HK$74.69 per share.

Since the start of the current buyback program, HSBC has bought back 206,946,919 shares for a total of about $1.91 billion.

Upon cancellation of the repurchased shares in the UK, the bank will have 17,948,698,433 ordinary shares.

Shares jumped 1% during Monday's morning trading.
