Taiwan Shares Rise 2.4%, Supported by Chip Stocks -- Market Talk

0252 GMT - Taiwan stocks are higher in late morning trading, with the benchmark Taiex index rising 2.4% to 23054.64, leading regional markets. Chip-related stocks are broadly higher. Index heavyweight TSMC climbs 3.9% to NT$1,080.00. The world's largest contract chip maker rises following Nvidia's gains Friday on Wall Street amid enthusiasm over artificial intelligence. Foxconn Technology, which builds AI servers for U.S. tech giants, rises 3.3%. Quanta Computer advances 4.5% and MediaTek adds 1.8%. Fubon Financial Holding gains 1.3%. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
