Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google reacted with disappointment to the decision by Japan's antitrust watchdog to issue a cease and desist order against the search engine provider over allegations of monopolistic practices.
"We're disappointed that the [Japan Fair Trade Commission] rushed to a decision instead of sufficiently considering our proposed solution. We will present our arguments in the hearing process," Google said late Monday in a statement to MT Newswires.
The statement was issued after media outlets reported that the commission was set to declare that Google violated the country's Antimonopoly Act. Google has been accused of forcing smartphone manufacturers in Japan to install Google Play and its search app Chrome on their smartphones.
"We have continued to work closely with the Japanese government to demonstrate how we are supporting the Android ecosystem and expanding user choice in Japan," the Google statement said.
