MT Newswires Live12-27 17:09

China's box office revenues on Dec. 24 slumped year over year to 38.4 million yuan from 170.5 million yuan the previous year, Reuters reported, citing data from ticket platform Maoyan.

The Christmas Eve takings marked a 13-year low, according to the report.

Peking University literature professor Zhang Yiwu attributed the decline to the lack of blockbuster films and the rise of streaming services, Reuters wrote.
