Wall Street futures were trending down slightly pre-bell Monday on the penultimate trading day of the year.
In the futures, the S&P 500 was down 0.2% while the Nasdaq and the Dow Jones were both off about 0.3%.
Asian exchanges closed mostly lower overnight and European bourses were also down midday on the continent.
Mining giant BHP (BHP) is scheduled to release earnings later today.
On the economic calendar, the monthly Chicago Business Barometer or PMI is set to be released after the opening bell. Forecasters expect regional business conditions at 42.7 in December after its decline to 40.2 in November.
The monthly National Association of Realtors' Pending Home Sales index is also set to be released Monday after the bell, with forecasters expecting sales up 0.9% in November.
In premarket action, Bitcoin traded at $93,640, West Texas Intermediate crude oil traded lower at $70.52, and 10-year US Treasuries offered 4.599%. Spot gold traded for $2,612 an ounce.
