Symbotic has appointed James Kuffner as its new chief technology officer, the company said Monday.

The robotics technology company said Kuffner took the role on Jan. 1, succeeding George Dramalis, who retired. Dramalis served as CTO starting in 2022.

Kuffner joins Symbotic from Toyota Motor, where he held several leadership roles, most recently as senior fellow of Toyota's software development center. He co-invented the Rapidly Exploring Random Tree algorithm for robot motion planning.
