China's Extended Trade-In Program May Further Boost Home Appliance Sector -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-08 14:57

0655 GMT - China's extended trade-in subsidies provide some upside surprises to investors, Citi analysts write in a note. Beijing expanded subsidy coverage to four new categories of home appliances: microwave ovens, water purifiers, dishwashers and rice cookers. The government also lifted the subsidy cap for air-conditioners to up to three items. In addition, consumers who have enjoyed trade-in subsidies last year can continue to receive them this year. These efforts significantly relieved investors' concerns on the sustainability of central government's subsidy support, Citi says. The brokerage maintains buy ratings on major home-appliance companies including Haier, Midea and Gree Electric Appliances. (jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
