Block is changing its ticker symbol to XYZ, the company said Thursday.
The change from its SQ and SQ2 tickers is part of its earlier name change to Block from Square.
The transition is scheduled to be implemented Jan. 21 on the New York Stock Exchange and Jan. 22 on the Australian Securities Exchange.
Block changed its name from Square in 2021 to differentiate itself from the company's seller business Square, which provides software and banking services to businesses. Block also owns the payment transfer service Cash App and the music streaming platform Tidal.
There is no action required by shareholders related to the ticker symbol change.
