Trump-Sized Shadow Looms Over Alcohol Industry in 2025 -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-09 01:16

1215 ET - Donald Trump's tariff threats have cast a shadow over major alcohol companies heading into 2025, Bernstein analysts say in a research note. After the industry had a brutal 2024, in which all big names meaningfully underperformed, the analysts say they "continue to believe a return to normal lies ahead" for U.S. alcohol consumption. But for three of the biggest purveyors -- Constellation Brands, Jack Daniel's owner Brown-Forman and Jose Cuervo owner Becle -- drastic tariffs on imports could pose a significant challenge, the analysts say. They think those companies still have strong fundamentals and valuations, but "there is no silver bullet until clarity on tariffs is obtained," the analysts say. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
