ASOS's Decision to Close U.S. Warehouse Makes Sense -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2025-01-15

1007 GMT - ASOS's plan to mothball its Atlanta distribution center seems a positive step, Berenberg analysts write in a note. The U.K. online fashion retailer said it will change the way it fulfils orders in the U.S. "This warehouse is much larger than it ever needed to be," the analysts say. It was established due to the need for local warehousing for ASOS to offer major sporting goods brands' products. However, the development since then of the Partner Fulfils business model--wherein brands fulfill orders placed on the ASOS website and app directly, without products being stored in the company's fulfillment centers--negates this need. The changes will, however, affect the delivery times on customer orders, they say. Shares are up 2.4% at 390 pence. (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)
