1528 ET - The U.S. poultry industry faces a trade-off between technological advances and operational constraints, Santander's Guilherme Palhares and Laura Hirata write. While genetic advances have resulted in heavier chickens, the new lineages are seeing an imbalance in mating ratios and specific diets for roosters, they say. Palhares and Hirata see JBS, which controls Pilgrim's Pride, as better positioned than its competitors to get around the problem. JBS "has not been affected by genetic disruptions, as it works with a wider range of lineages, reducing operational risks," they write. (paulo.trevisani@wsj.com; @ptrevisani)
