The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a group consisting of nearly every major automaker, called on Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to take steps to accelerate the deployment of self-driving cars, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a letter sent by the industry group to the secretary.
The letter, which was also signed by the Consumer Technology Association and Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association, urged Duffy to implement a national performance-based framework and declare the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the sole regulator of hardware for self-driving cars, according to the report.
