IAG Likely to Face Compensation Costs From Heathrow Closure -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-21 09:32

0932 GMT - International Consolidated Airlines' largest likely immediate cost arising from the closure of Heathrow Airport Friday is from compensation, Jefferies analysts say in a research note. Heathrow Airport is closed due to a power outage caused by a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport. The most exposed airline within the larger IAG group is British Airways, and the Heathrow issue is likely to cause disruption for several days, the analysts say. The closure is estimated to translate to compensation costs amounting to 1% to 3% of group EBIT this year, Jefferies says. The estimate doesn't factor in any further inefficiencies caused by crew dislocation, the analysts add. IAG shares trade down 2.3% at 284.10 pence. (pierre.bertrand@wsj.com)
