South Korean battery materials maker Lotte Energy Materials (KRX:020150) is pursuing the Copper Mark certification for its Malaysian copper foil plant, aiming to boost its ESG credibility, Yonhap News and The Korea Herald reported Thursday.

The Copper Mark, introduced in 2019, is the only global ESG certification for responsible copper production. The Malaysian plant operates on hydroelectric power, aligning with sustainability goals. In 2023, the battery materials maker established an ESG Committee to improve compliance with global ESG standards, according to the reports.

Shares of Lotte Energy Materials fell nearly 3% in recent trade on Friday.
