Airline Fare Growth 'Slowed Notably' Last Month, UBS Data Shows -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-24

1402 ET - Bookings data shows that fare growth "slowed notably" across the six largest U.S. airlines in February, UBS analysts say in a research note. The slowdown was most evident for Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, both of which cut their outlooks earlier this month over fears that a recession could further erode travel demand after a choppy start to the year. Delta's global average fare edged 0.1% higher in February, after growing 6.8% year-over-year in January, UBS data shows. American's global fare growth was 4.5% lower in February compared with 2.8% growth year-over-year in January. That said, the analysts add that premium fare growth held up better than economy.
