Anglo American Platinum Set to Perform Well After June Demerger -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-31

0802 GMT - Anglo American shareholders would do well to keep hold of their shares in Anglo American Platinum upon its planned spin-off in June, Berenberg analysts write. Last week, the analysts visited its flagship Mogalakwena platinum group metals mine in South Africa and said it reinforced their view of Amplats' industry-leading position. Anglo American is divesting of its quality subsidiary at the bottom of the PGM price cycle, the analysts write. While Anglo American's outlook is less positive, Amplats--or Valterra Platinum as it will be called from June--looks set to perform well, they add. Anglo American shares trade down 3% at 2,186.50 pence while Amplats' shares trade down 1.45% at 73,462 South African cent.(adam.whittaker@wsj.com)
