Asian Markets Extend Declines in Wake of Wall Street's Plunge -- WSJ

Asian stocks are taking another hit in Friday morning trading as investors digest the economic consequences of President Trump's tariffs.

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average finished the morning session down 2.6%, following a 2.8% decline on Thursday, with shares of trade-dependent companies such as semiconductor equipment maker Tokyo Electron falling. South Korea's Kospi index pared earlier losses and was down 0.5%, while markets in Hong Kong and China were closed for a holiday.

"At the core of the market selloff is the repricing for higher recession risk," said IG market strategist Yeap Jun Rong. Japan bond yields fell sharply in the wake of a decline in Treasury yields, an indicator that investors consider a recession more likely.
