WK Kellogg Co (KLG) is being investigated in Texas over potential violations of the state's consumer protection laws over health claims on its cereal products, the office of state Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement over the weekend.
Paxton's office said that the company could be violating consumer protection laws for advertising its cereals such as Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies as "healthy" despite being "filled with petroleum-based artificial food colorings" that have been linked to certain health problems such as hyperactivity and obesity.
The company had previously said it would remove the subject artificial food dyes from its products, but it has failed to do so for products sold in the US, according to the office.
WK Kellogg did not immediately respond to MTNewswires' request for comment.
