JPMorgan's Dimon Clarifies Support for Tariffs on National Security -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2025-04-11

1018 ET - JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon clarified Friday that he supports tariffs that protect national security, but that national security is "a small part of trade." Dimon said in January that tariffs were a valuable economic weapon for national security, seeming to change course from previous statements about them being a threat to the economy. The CEO now regrets his January comment, he says, because he was particularly referring to tariffs tied to national security, particularly for things like rare earth materials, penicillin, medical ingredients and semiconductors. "I did not change my view about it," Dimon says. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
