India's retail inflation, measured by the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI), eased to 3.34% in March from 3.61% in February, marking the lowest year-on-year inflation since August 2019, provisional data from the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation showed Tuesday.

Food inflation also fell sharply to 2.69% in March from 3.75% in February, the lowest since November 2021. The decline was largely driven by lower prices in vegetables, eggs, pulses, cereals, meat, and dairy products.

Rural CPI inflation dropped to 3.25% in March from 3.79% the previous month, while food inflation in rural areas fell sequentially to 2.82% from 4.06%.

Urban headline inflation edged up slightly to 3.43% from 3.32% in February, but food inflation declined to 2.48% from 3.15%.
