0840 ET - The Canadian dollar has appreciated recently against USD, but has lost ground against all of its major-economy counterparts--a sign that traders remain bearish about Canada's longer-term prospects, says Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at forex firm Corpay. Canadian dollar strengthening versus USD has more to do with investors downgrading their US outlook, amid the Trump administration's upheaval in trade policy. "The real verdict on Canada's future hasn't yet been pronounced in currency markets," Schamotta says, noting that elevated levels of uncertainty are crippling business investment and dampening hiring plans.(Paul.Vieira@wsj.com, @paulvieira)
