1113 ET - Consumers are getting even more skittish with their spending plans as uncertainty around the 90-day pause on President Trump's tariff campaign looms large, UBS analysts say in a research note. April survey data suggest spending on soft goods, such as clothing and bedding, is going to weaken over the next three months, largely due to tariff concerns pushing consumers to tighten their purse strings, the analysts say. That's going to hurt the stocks of softline producers and retailers, which are down heavily year-to-date on tariff weakness but likely haven't had a near-term spending slowdown priced in yet, they say. Off-price retailers TJX and Burlington Stores are the best positioned companies to navigate the tariff storm that will otherwise roil the softlines sector, the analysts say. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
