Air China, China Eastern deepen first-quarter losses

BEIJING, April 29 (Reuters) - Major state-owned airlines in China announced losses for the first quarter on Tuesday, amid fierce competition in the domestic market and sluggish demand on international routes.

Air China 601111.SS, the country's flag carrier, reported a net loss of 2.0 billion yuan ($275.02 million) for the quarter, 22% lower than the same period a year ago.

China Eastern Airlines 600115.SS revealed a quarterly net loss of 995 million yuan, 24% deeper than a year earlier.
