Costco Wholesale logged higher sales in April, despite a calendar shift that negatively affected the period.

The warehouse retailer on Wednesday said sales climbed 7%, to $21.18 billion, for its four weeks ended May 4.

Across all locations, same-store sales were up 4.4% last month. Comparable sales--which account for store openings and closings--rose 5.2% in the U.S. and 1.5% in Canada. Across all other international territories, same-store sales increased 3.2%.

E-commerce sales jumped 12.6%.

Excluding changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, overall same-store sales increased 6.7% and e-commerce sales jumped 13%.

Costco noted that April had one less shopping day due to the timing of Easter, a calendar shift that hurt total and comparable sales by about 1.5% to 2%.
