Losing Access to China Would Have Material Impact on Nvidia -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05-29

1715 ET - Nvidia's recent quarter was hurt by a $4.5 billion charge for inventory on chips that it had designed for the Chinese market, which weren't allowed to be exported under new rules from the Trump administration. "The $4.5 billion charge was less than what we initially anticipated, as we were able to reuse certain materials," CFO Colette Kress says on a call with analysts. Currently, the company is evaluating its limited options to serve the Chinese market. "Losing access to the China AI accelerator market, which we believe will grow to nearly $50 billion, would have a material adverse impact on our business going forward and benefit our foreign competitors in China and worldwide," Kress says.
