Market Chatter: SoftBank's Ampere Acquisition Faces In-Depth US Review

MT Newswires Live07-02

SoftBank Group's (TYO:9984) planned takeover of semiconductor designer Ampere Computing is facing an in-depth investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The FTC probe, known as a second request for information, may last for a year or more and could lead to a blocked deal, the report said.

Softbank said it intended to close the acquisition in the second half of 2025, when the Japanese multinational investment holding company first announced the $6.5 billion deal in March.
