BYD May Face Short-Term Volume Headwind With Push to Enforce Pricing -- Market Talk

Dow Jones07-10

0403 GMT - BYD's recent move to initiate comprehensive pricing enforcement across its Dynasty, Ocean and Fangchengbao dealership networks may become a short-term headwind for volume growth, Daiwa analyst Kelvin Lau writes in a note. The initiative, led by a newly formed "self-discipline committee," mandates strict adherence to official pricing guidelines, Lau says. The move comes amid consumer hesitation and increased sensitivity to prices, he adds. However, over the medium term, the initiative may support healthier dealer economics, reduce intranetwork price wars and reinforce BYD's premium positioning in the new energy vehicle segment, he says.
