Alphabet and Tesla Earnings, Powell Speech and More: What to Watch Next Week -- WSJ

Earnings season rolls on next week with the first of the Magnificent Seven tech names to report, Tesla and Alphabet. New economic data will shed more light on how tariffs are affecting U.S. consumer and business spending. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is slated to speak on bank regulation, his last scheduled remarks before the central bank weighs its next move on interest rates July 29-30.

Here's what to watch for:

Monday, July 21

-- Earnings (a.m): Verizon Communications, Domino's Pizza, Cleveland-Cliffs

-- Earnings (p.m.): Steel Dynamics

-- Economic Data: Leading economic indicators for June, expected at 10 a.m. ET

Tuesday, July 22

-- Earnings (a.m.): Coca-Cola, General Motors, RTX, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Philip Morris International, Danaher, Sherwin-Williams

-- Earnings (p.m.) Texas Instruments, Capital One Financial, Intuitive Surgical

-- Fed speakers: Chair Jerome Powell will speak at a conference on bank regulation in Washington, D.C. at 8:30 a.m. Fed governor Michelle Bowman, the central bank's vice chair for supervision, is scheduled to discuss AI and the banking system with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at the same conference at 1 p.m.

-- Economic data: Richmond Fed manufacturing survey

Wednesday, July 23

-- Big earnings: Tesla, Alphabet, after the close.

-- More earnings (a.m): AT&T, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Boston Scientific, GE Vernova, Hilton Worldwide

-- More earnings (p.m): IBM, T-Mobile US, Chipotle, Alaska Air

-- Economic Data: Existing home sales for June.

Thursday, July 24

-- Earnings (a.m.): Honeywell, Blackstone, American Airlines, Union Pacific, Southwest Airlines

-- Earnings (p.m.): Intel, Newmont

-- Economic data: New home sales for June, along with weekly jobless claims and July purchasing managers index data for manufacturing and services. Also, the Kansas City Fed manufacturing index.

Friday, July 25

-- Earnings: Charter Communications, Phillips 66, Booz Allen Hamilton, HCA Healthcare, before the bell.

-- Economic data: Durable goods orders for June.
