Hong Kong ranked eighth in the 2025 Smart City Index published by Polytechnic University, outperforming regional peers Seoul and Singapore, the South China Morning Post reported Wednesday.
The city was the second-highest ranked in Asia, behind only Tokyo in fifth place, according to the report.
The index reportedly assessed 73 cities across six categories on economy, environment, governance, infrastructure, social landscape, and citizen well-being.
Hong Kong placed third globally in the economy category, trailing only New York and Tokyo, the report said.
While the city ranked in the top 20 for environment and governance, it fell short in infrastructure and social indicators, partly due to limited active transport infrastructure and persistent housing issues, SCMP wrote.
