Children's Place Sales Pressure Bleeds into 2Q -- Market Talk
Dow Jones09-06
1702 ET - The Children's Place's challenges from 1Q bled into 2Q, as slower foot traffic and volume reduced sales both in store and online. Chief Executive Muhammad Umair says some momentum began to build toward the end of 2Q, with back-to-school shopping driving improvement in same-store sales heading into the current 3Q. July was the first month in 18 months in which the company's owned and operated direct-to-consumer business had positive same-store sales growth, Umair says. Shares rise 8.5% in late trading.(katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
