Sovereign Metals Seeks to Position Malawi Rutile-Graphite Project to Capitalize on Japanese Government Initiative

MT Newswires Live09-11

Sovereign Metals (ASX:SVM) said it plans to construct a six-kilometer rail spur linking the proposed plant at the Kasiya rutile-graphite project in Malawi to the transport corridor to Nacala in Mozambique as it seeks to capitalize on Japanese demand for critical minerals, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.

The Japanese government launched the Nacala Logistics Corridor development initiative, seeking to strengthen critical mineral supply chains from Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique, committing $7 billion in development funding.

The corridor serves as the preferred transportation route for the firm's upcoming definitive feasibility study. It is in talks with leading regional logistics providers on rail and port services.
