Mercedes-Benz Has Few Catalysts for Improvement Next Year -- Market Talk

Dow Jones09-12

1257 GMT - Mercedes-Benz could see some EBIT improvement by 2027, but shares have catalysts for improvement in 2026, Citi analysts write. EBIT margins have fallen by around 1,000 basis points on a combination of China market challenges, volume and pricing declines, U.S. tariffs, and the poor performance of previous EV investments. The company is now responding by cutting fixed and variable costs and a new S class model cycle should drive some on-year improvement in 2027, Citi adds. "We think Mercedes should commit to a fixed rather than a free cash flow-based annual return and restart the buyback to signal long-term confidence." Shares fall 1.5%. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
