Worthington Steel Says Uncertainty Still Weighing on Demand -- Market Talk

Dow Jones09-26

1252 ET - Worthington Steel is facing soft demand due to macroeconomic uncertainty, Chief Financial Officer Tim Adams tells analysts. Agriculture is the most challenged market, as volumes were down 50% year-over-year due to continued softness in the agricultural equipment sector, Adams says. Shipments to the heavy truck market fell 7% and to construction customers fell 3%. Toll processing volumes fell 22% because of less processing from mills and service centers, as well as the closure of a processing plant in Ohio, Adams says. "We experienced pluses and minuses across various markets as customers continued to navigate uncertainty during the quarter," he said. Shares fall 6.4%. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
