Samsung Electronics' OpenAI Alliance Boosts Memory Chip Outlook -- Market Talk

Dow Jones10-03

0902 GMT - Samsung Electronics' Stargate partnership with OpenAI is expected to drive structural growth in demand for the company's high-bandwidth memory chips, lifting its earnings outlook, CGS analyst Kyunga Lee says in a note. She projects 3Q operating profit to rise 8% from a year earlier to 9.9 trillion won, supported by favorable forex and stronger-than-expected NAND memory prices, and raises its 2026 operating profit forecast by 33% to 54 trillion won. CGS expects the redesigned 1anm HBM3e chip to restore Samsung's technological edge if it meets customers' performance requirements. HBM shipments are forecast to grow 114% in 2026, while the average selling price could fall 3%, Lee adds. CGS maintains its add rating on the stock and raises its target price to KRW125,000 from KRW81,000. Shares last closed at KRW89,000. (jason.chau@wsj.com)
