Volkswagen is warning that temporary production stoppages can't be ruled out because of an ongoing dispute involving a Dutch semiconductor company.
Nexperia, a Netherlands-based chipmaker, is in the crosshairs of an extraordinary situation involving the Dutch and China. It had pulled back on shipments to auto suppliers after the Dutch seized control of Nexperia from its Chinese owner.
Nexperia isn't a direct supplier of VW, but some of its parts are used in components that are included in the automaker's vehicles, a spokesperson said. The company is in contact with relevant stakeholders to identify potential risks, the spokesperson added.
"However, given the evolving circumstances, short-term effects on production cannot be ruled out," the spokesperson said. "At the same time, we are further increasing the transparency in our supply chain with the goal of ensuring its resilience and reliability."
