Ahold Delhaize's U.S. division plans to build a $860 million distribution center to grow its supply chain network on the East Coast.

The grocery retail group said Wednesday the Burlington, N.C. facility will deliver fresh and frozen grocery items to its Food Lion grocery brand's stores.

The distribution center aims to support Food Lion's growth in North Carolina as well as create new jobs, the company said.

The company expects to begin construction on the new facility next year and anticipates operations will start in 2029.

Over time, the site is expected to employ over 500 associates.
