L'Oreal's Sales Miss Is Worrying News for Beiersdorf, Puig -- Market Talk

Dow Jones10-22

0932 GMT - L'Oreal's disappointing sales results for the third quarter bode ill for peers Beiersdorf and Puig, Patrick Folan and Warren Ackerman at Barclays Equity Research write in a note. Shares in L'Oreal lost ground Wednesday after the French beauty giant's revenue for the quarter through September missed analysts' expectations. For Germany's Beiersdorf, which is to report its own 3Q sales Thursday, signs of weakness in the dermatological-products market are worrying, Folan and Ackerman say. For Puig, meanwhile, L'Oreal's cautious outlook on the fragrance market isn't encouraging, the analysts say, ahead of the Barcelona-based fragrance-and-fashion group's quarterly results next week.(joshua.kirby@wsj.com; @joshualeokirby)
