Health care stocks edged up late Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) each adding about 0.2%.
The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) increased 0.6%.
In corporate news, Sagimet Biosciences (SGMT) shares surged 23% after it said a phase 3 trial of denifanstat in people with acne vulgaris met all primary and secondary endpoints.
Eli Lilly (LLY) has agreed to buy Adverum Biotechnologies (ADVM), which is developing a therapy to treat vision loss, in a deal worth up to $12.47 per share, the companies said Friday. Eli Lilly shares rose 1.3%, and Adverum lost 2%.
HCA Healthcare (HCA) lifted its full-year outlook as the hospital operator's Q3 results came in ahead of market expectations. Its shares rose 1.2%.
Sanofi (SNY) shares added 4% after it posted higher Q3 earnings and net sales.
