Virgin Australia (ASX:VGN) is set to close its priority entry points, which give the airline's Beyond, Platinum, and Gold frequent flyers, as well as their guests, direct access to lounges at Sydney and Brisbane airports on December 19, The Australian Financial Review reported on Tuesday.
The shutdown is part of its overhaul of its screening processes across Australian airports. It plans to introduce a new system on December 15 in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, the Gold Coast, and Adelaide, with the installation of new baggage scanning equipment.
Brisbane Airport will not have a direct-to-lounge priority access point for most of 2026. After the facility reopens, the airline's elite-tier frequent flyers will be able to access around-the-clock priority screening and direct access to its lounge.
Its elite Velocity program members only get priority screening services at the Melbourne and Sydney airports before 8 AM on weekdays. After the upgrades, the hours will be extended to between 5 AM and 10 AM, as well as between 2 PM and 7 PM.
