Sealed Air Deal Premium Already Baked In -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-18

1113 ET - Some of the premium in the $6.2 billion deal to take Sealed Air private may have already been built into the Bubble Wrap maker's stock price before last week's news that buyout firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice was circling. The $42.15-a-share takeout price is 16% above Wednesday's closing price of $36.38, before The Wall Street Journal reported that a deal was near. But it's also 41% above Sealed Air's closing price of $29.84 on Aug. 14, the day activist investor Ancora disclosed it had taken a stake in the company. Semafor last week reported that Ancora had been pushing for a sale. Sealed Air down 3% to $41.97. (colin.kellaher@wsj.com)
