1021 GMT - Fundamental trends have helped emerging-market bonds to outperform global fixed income this year, Pictet Asset Management's Patrick Zweifel says in a note. Local currency EM government bonds surged by some 16% and dollar-denominated EM debt rose 12%, "far outpacing gains of just 3% for global fixed income overall," the chief economist says. Returns from EM bonds hinge on five factors: the direction of interest rates, global trading conditions, the dollar's strength, commodities prices, and economic growth in China. "Four of these factors are now positive, creating the most favorable conditions for EM bonds in two decades," the economist says. (emese.bartha@wsj.com)
