TotalEnergies (TTE) and Chevron (CVX) are the frontrunners to buy a 40% operating stake in Galp's Mopane oil discovery offshore Namibia, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing four sources.
Mopane is estimated to hold at least 10 billion barrels of oil, and Galp aims to select a buyer by year-end, the report said.
More than a dozen firms had shown interest, and Galp said talks are progressing with preferred bidders but did not name them, according to the report.
TotalEnergies and Chevron did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
Shares of TotalEnergies and Chevron were down 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively, in recent Wednesday trading.
