Nintendo Co. on Thursday announced that it will acquire the Singaporean arm of Tokyo-based Bandai Namco Studios Inc. to strengthen the development structure for its video games.
The Japanese gaming company will acquire 80% of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore Pte.'s shares on April 1 and make it a subsidiary. Nintendo did not disclose the purchase price.
The Singaporean firm was established in 2013 as the Bandai Namco group's development base in Asia. It has expertise in creating in-game visual assets, and has contributed to the development of Nintendo's popular "Splatoon" series and other titles.
Nintendo is currently working on improving its research and development capabilities, such as by constructing a second building for R&D in Kyoto, to reinforce the foundation of its game business.
